Mr. FRED A. ALIMUSA –PHILIPPINES
A TRUE ROTTWEILER ENTHUSIAST
Mr. Fred A. Alimusa has been involved with Rottweilers since 1982.He was a member of several international breed clubs: The American Rottweilers Club. National Capital Rottweilers Club, United state Rottweilers Club (an affiliate of ADRK), and American Rottweilers Verein to name a few. Because of his in depth knowledge of the Rottweiler breed, he was appointed Breed Warden by the United States Rottweiler Club (USRC) to guide the members on proper breeding practices and breed suitability of their dogs. At that time, there were only twelve Breed wardens appointed by the USRC for the entire USA. Fred was the only Filipino-American, and the first Asian, to be appointed to this prestigious position. Since a Rottweiler is a working Breed, and he believes in “form Follows Function, ”Mr. Alimusa was involved in training his dog for schutzhund, a German dog sport that requires tracking, obedience and protection. He was a member of the United Schutzhund Clubs of America. The Greater Washington DC schutzhund Group, Deutcher Verband der Gebrauchshundsportverein (DVG), DHV, and the Commonwealth Working Dog Club, where he was a training Director and Board Director. He was an American Eastern Regional competitor in the sport of schutzhund. He also trained his Rottweilers in Search –and- Rescue (With Dog East), cart-pull, Therapy Dog, and tracking Dog. He trained and/or titled his dogs in conformation shows (America and German), SchHIII, CD, CGC, V, AD, BH, ZtPr, BST, and TD; and took them to elementary schools to teach kids about dog-bite prevention and proper dog care.
“There are quite a few Rottweilers that can win in dog show and have the proper drives to compete in the Schutzhund ring,” he said. Asked if any of his dogs had those qualities, he was quick to reply,” I was lucky to have four really good ones-Bertha, a daughter of Arri von der Hembachbrucke (a full brother of Dingo vom Schwainger Wappen); Conrad, a son of Hassan vom Koningsgarten; Lucy, a daughter of Noris vom Gruntenblick.”
A true advocate of breed suitability Tests for Rottweilers, Mr. Alimusa educated breeders and enthusiasts on the importance and the advantages of the test.”Rottweilers is working dog that should be equipped with the proper temperament in addition to a correct structure. You cannot just have one or the other.” he points out.”ADRK set the standard of the breed, which includes, most importantly, the temperament, including working character and drives. If a dog fails a crucial portion of this test, it cannot be approved for breeding.
“Many American-bred Rottweilers, including several champions, should not be bred because they lack the correct temperament of Rottweiler. They may have an outstanding conformation, but these dogs will fail a Breed Suitability Test. Why are they still being bred? Because a lot of Breeders in America have no idea of the test in the correct Rottweiler temperament. This is the reason why there are so many Rottweilers attacks happening in the states. This is sad. There Breeders have, available to them, all the tools they need to breed for the correct Rottweiler. They either don’t know about them, or they choose to ignore them, “he adds. His love for the working dog got him involved with the training of explosives detection dog with the USA Customs officers in Front Royal .VA, and the K-9 Units in the Greater Washington DC area where he resided(Great Fall, Virginia).with his dog ,friend, club members’ dogs, the sniffer and K-9 dogs, he has trained and helped more that a thousand dogs and dog owners. Being a true Rottweilers enthusiast, Mr. Alimusa apprenticed as a Rottweilers judge under German, Austrian, Italian, Australian, New Zealand and American judges. His mentor in the breed is Barbara Hoard, one of the pioneer American Rottweiler breeders (Panamint kennels) and licensed to judge by both the Allgemeiner Deutcher Rottweilers club (ADRK, German Rottweiler club) and American Kennel Club (AKC).He learned more about the breed, judging, care and training from the former ADRK President, Erich Walbrodt, former ADRK head Breed warden, Kurt Lohnert, former ADRK head breed Warden, Paul Fleige, and many other experts in the breed. He shared his knowledge of dogs in general and Rottweilers in particular by writing articles and giving seminars and proper breeding, care, training, behavior modification, ZtPr (Breed Suitable Test),Schutzhund, Canine search & Rescue (K-9 SAR),Rottweilers Breed Standard, etc. for several magazines and Web sites in USA, Thailand, Malaysia, Australia, Korea, Singapore and the Philippines.
Mr. Alimusa is a FCL recognized Rottweiler judge who has judged numerous Siegar shows in Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia and South Korea where he gave critiques for each dog based on the breed standard-a task only a few Asian judges can reliably and fluently perform. He is also licensed working dog Trials Judge.
